The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has an exciting career opportunity within the Office of Legal Affairs.
This position supports the Department’s mission to improve and protect the health, wellbeing, and self-reliance of all Montanans throughout every state of their life by delivering quality legal services. The lawyer position includes, but is not limited to: providing legal support to and representing DPHHS; responding to requests for legal advice and guidance from departmental program staff and leadership through verbal and written legal advice and opinions; provide legal support to program staff throughout the administrative review process or proceedings.

- Knowledge of legal analysis principles, practices, and theories.
- Knowledge of legal research methods and techniques, including use of LEXIS, Westlaw, and the internet.
- Ability to analyze difficult legal problems and synthesize a course of action.
- Ability to develop a level of confidence between themselves and legal clients.

- Meet minimum qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate (J.D) from an accredited law school.
- Three years of legal experience.
- Admission to practice law in Montana, or admission within one year from the date of hire.
- Preferred:
- Knowledge of healthcare law or areas of law relevant to DPHHS programs.
- Knowledge of the legislative process.
- Knowledge of administrative review procedures, all aspects of the Montana Administrative Procedures Act (MAPA), and judicial review procedures.
- Lawyer 2
- Meet minimum qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate (J.D) from an accredited law school.
- Five years of legal experience.
- Admission to practice law in Montana, or admission within one year from the date of hire.
- Knowledge of healthcare law or areas of law relevant to DPHHS programs.
- Knowledge of the legislative process.
- Preferred:
- Knowledge of administrative review procedures, all aspects of the Montana Administrative Procedures Act (MAPA), and judicial review procedures.
