Position Title: Compliance Auditor
The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is recruiting for a Compliance Auditor. This position examines and evaluates conformity with state laws, federal regulations, and other compliance components through conducting performance and compliance audits, other engagements, special projects, and investigations. Reviews industry-specific rules, regulations, and statutes to determine compliance with the requirements, identify violations or discrepancies, and the type of remediation taken. Advises individuals and groups concerning regulation, inspection, and investigation findings; encourages voluntary action to correct problems. Performs planning, field work, and reports the results to MDT administrators and program managers, consultants, contractors, grant recipients, and taxpayers. This position will be part of the external section which concentrates on contractor and grant recipient compliance. This position will report to the Compliance Audit Manager, External Section and is part of a career ladder with career advancement opportunities.

- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, information technology, or a closely related field.
- Compliance Auditor 2.1: one year of experience in audit, compliance, or related field.
- Compliance Auditor 2.2: two years of experience in audit, compliance or related field, with one year directly related to GAGAS.
- Other combinations of related education and experience may be considered, such as 5 years of related experience.
This agency may use a training assignment. Employees in training assignments may be paid below the base pay established by the agency pay rules. Conditions of the training assignment will be stated in writing at the time of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of auditing and GAGAS standards.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Ability to form and document logical conclusions. Provide recommendations based on the conclusion.
