Job Overview:
This is professional work analyzing multi-level court business practices to develop and support automated systems and training programs for judges, court staff and all those who file with Montana state courts.
This position tackles the many challenges that offices and individuals face during the migration from paper document workflows to electronic court records and document workflows, as well as ongoing support to each e-filing community. Work involves telephone and internet support of all users of the e-filing system and the many integrated software packages. Performing needs assessment of each court community to develop strategies for best local use of the e-filing system and coordinating those goals among various court community stakeholders. Designing and carrying out training program curricula for court personnel and the e-filing community. Arranging training schedules and facilities and preparing data. Writing training and support material for software users. Installing, testing, troubleshooting and evaluation of software updates to identify software performance problems or those created by integration with various software and environment variables. Additional responsibilities include follow-up visits, technical manual development, ongoing system maintenance, presentation development and data preparation, public speaking and traveling to court sites throughout Montana.
Nature of Work:
This is professional library work that focuses on public services, reference, and access to justice initiatives provided by the Law Library.
Job Duties:

- Providing reference services to all Law Library patrons, including, but not limited to, legal research (print and online), general research, compiling legislative histories, finding historical statutes, compiling finding aids, and understanding federal, state, and tribal jurisdictions.
- Providing specialized instruction in legal research techniques, both manual and online.
- Evaluating and authenticating information on the Library’s website and adding content when appropriate.
- Regularly evaluating the Library’s collection and services and recommending new materials and services to the State Law Librarian.
- Regularly evaluating existing policies and procedures; recommending changes; assisting in implementation of new policies.
- Assisting the State Law Librarian in formulating and developing plans to promote library services.
- Maintaining statistics for measurement of reference services.
- Assisting the State Law Librarian in representing the Law Library in contact with the public. Being comfortable talking to and teaching interested individuals/groups about legal research and use of the Library’s resources.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Behaviors):
- Working knowledge and ability to make appropriate use of a wide variety of library resources, including online data bases, the Internet, and print resources.
- Ability to develop and conduct classes for teaching others manual and online legal research.

Work is performed primarily in a library environment.
Providing reference assistance requires the ability to be mobile, to stoop, and to reach in order to retrieve library materials. Position requires mental alertness and acuity in order to effectively perform duties. Position requires the ability to lift books and move loaded book trucks. Position may require extensive periods of standing or sitting in front of a video display terminal.
