MDT Internship Program provides an opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of problem solving, innovation and teamwork. Interns engage in Montana’s transportation projects that have a direct impact on Montana’s traveling public! Interns will collaborate with area experts and gain invaluable hands-on experience. Our internships focus on training and integrating the interns into our current workforce of over 2,000 people across Montana who are all providing a vital role to ensure everyone arrives at their destination safely.
The Montana Department of Transportation is recruiting for a Summer Aviation Management Internship position. All applicants must be enrolled in a College, University, or Tech School. If applicant is not currently enrolled in a College, University or Tech School the application will not be considered for a position.
- One intern will be hired from this posting.
- Interns will work at the West Yellowstone Airport.
- Interns do not receive benefits such as paid holidays, medical coverage, earned vacation, or sick leave. Work schedule will be 40 hours a week during the summer.

Pay is determined by credit hours earned by the end of Spring semester 2025:
60-90 credit hours = $20.46
91+ credit hours = $21.25
Summer duties to be performed:
50% Airport Operations and Maintenance
50% Airport Administrative
Intern will be exposed to:
Assist the Airport Manager with various Administrative Tasks
Tenant Relations
14 CFR Part 139 Requirements- Certification of Airports
Ground Vehicle Pedestrian Training
Assist Operations Specialists with various maintenance tasks
Self-inspections
NOTAM reporting
Airfield and facilities maintenance
49 CFR Part 1542– Airport Security
